The word "coffeehouse" tends to carry with it various images, some of which don't really apply to the Crosstown Acoustic Cafe, so we decided to describe it clearly right at the beginning.

Picture this. Suppose you had a big living room, several times larger than the one you have now, and after thinking about it you said, "I think I'll invite five music artists over and give them each a chance to perform here in the living room. I'll bake a few desserts, and put on some coffee. Then I'll invite my friends and neighbors to come, until the room is full, and we'll spend the evening together, sharing and listening."

It's a nice idea, but most of us don't have a living room that big. There is a room though, right here in Ocean Grove, that fits the description quite well. Recently renovated by the OGCMA, it's located just west of Thornley Chapel. (In fact, some call it Thornley Chapel West.) But whatever you call it, it's a great place to hold a "living room concert." And we're inviting you to come and share the evening.

What kind of audience is invited? A listening audience. If are old enough to sit still and listen, you'll do fine. Crosstown evenings are "listening experiences." We come because of what we are going to hear.

Is it primarily for young people? Actually, no. This coffeehouse is for everyone. If you are in your teens, or have celebrated your eightieth birthday some time ago, or are anywhere in between, you are welcome, especially if you enjoy listening to artists talk about their songs before they sing them in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

Is it like a drop-in? Come whenever, leave whenever? Well, you may come at any time, but we think you'll enjoy the evening more if you are there at the beginning. To be honest, because the seating space is limited, you may want to arrive early.

Well, we hope this gives you a little idea of what to expect at the Crosstown Acoustic Cafe. See you there.
